iGrib is a GRIB (GRIdded Binary) file viewer for iOS (iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch).

This allows you to see the same data that the professionals use for forecasting.

This app is particularly valuable for people like sailors who require a longer range forecast. (The author is a sailor)

Grib files are available with up to 10 days forecast of temperature, wind, cloud cover, precipitation, pressure, relative humidity and CAPE - for various regions covering most of the world. Alternatively you can define your own files from within the app or use files from 3rd parties.

View one or more parameters at a time on the map, or touch and hold to see all the data for a particular point.

Pros and cons of iGrib app for iPhone and iPad

iGrib app good for

Very fast access to grib information, very easy to use, this is a must have if youre serious about weather forecast when youre on a boat. Also, very good contact with the author! Way to go!
Great app for sailing and flying. Needs More wind data (More arrows) to become a 5 star app. Well done
I could easily download the data for Germany. I would find it helpful to have two separate opacity levels, one for symbols (wind etc) and one for areas/planes (precipitation, temperature). Thanks for this!
When this app works, its very useful. Unfortunately, it crashes....often.
Ive had a lot of trouble getting basic software to view GRIB files. Either the software costs quite a lot, like polarview ($50), you have to subscribe to a GRIB download service (MacENC, iNAvX) or both. Given the gribs are produced freely by various weather services this seems pretty rude. For $5 here you are set. The pressure contours and precipitation views are handy also. The interface is well designed and it is very easy to click through the next weeks weather forecast. I would recommend some improvements though. For one thing you can only select one of the preset regions. I my case I am interested in the north pacific. While I can select this region and get the key info I am after, the weather further out in the pacific is not viewable- and Id like it to be for longer range forecasting. The same is true of the Atlantic, you can select coastal, but not offshore. The other minor issue is scaling. When you zoom in the resolution doesnt zoom to match and the resolution is set for more large scale systems, so up close you cannot see anything at all. This are minor issues that I assume will be fixed. Overall, for the price and excellent interface- a great product.
Works well on iPhone 4 and 5, also on ipad2, no issues gives me the detail I want when out in my boat.

Some bad moments

I bought it and tried it but I found it was not useful. The iPhone screen is too small too. I found it very frustrating to use and so immediately deleted it. I decided to give it a second try but it now crashes every time I try and load data. Nice idea but I cannot recommend it
iPhone5. Cant resize gribs. Unusefull area definition. Many problems.
After upgrade today, crash and crash. Not works. Please solve it!!
The perfect companion. Would very much like to see grib downloads for Iceland and maybe Greenland as well!
I am located in Annapolis, Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay and consider myself an avid racing sailor and fisherman. I have found that being able to view Grib files from my Iphone has become an indispensable tool in knowing what the weather will be out on the bay. I have been continually impressed with the accuarcy of the Grib files used by this app. Additionally, I have only good things to say about the designer who has been VERY receptive to suggestions and actually created a Mid-Atantic chart as requested. For anyone who has a true interest in weather I would recommend this app without fail. Some have criticized the fact that charts are downloaded but I believe trying to stream these files would be a real issue in marginal signals areas (e.g. middle of the Bay) and much prefer downloading the most recent file. IMHO, this app is well worth the price. Fair winds!
I tour on a motorcycle and wind is my only real enemy unless there is ice. I was hoping that the program would show wind speed instead of just direction. Also, I live in US do I dont understand Celsius. Im sure it will help me in time.
