functional, affordable - does the job!
Ive had a lot of trouble getting basic software to view GRIB files. Either the software costs quite a lot, like polarview ($50), you have to subscribe to a GRIB download service (MacENC, iNAvX) or both. Given the gribs are produced freely by various weather services this seems pretty rude. For $5 here you are set. The pressure contours and precipitation views are handy also. The interface is well designed and it is very easy to click through the next weeks weather forecast.
I would recommend some improvements though. For one thing you can only select one of the preset regions. I my case I am interested in the north pacific. While I can select this region and get the key info I am after, the weather further out in the pacific is not viewable- and Id like it to be for longer range forecasting. The same is true of the Atlantic, you can select coastal, but not offshore. The other minor issue is scaling. When you zoom in the resolution doesnt zoom to match and the resolution is set for more large scale systems, so up close you cannot see anything at all. This are minor issues that I assume will be fixed. Overall, for the price and excellent interface- a great product.
